Well, actually there is. This is like hum the events of Twilight princess begin when they are 5 and 6 years old and end 12 years later (a lot of time I know xD Link took a lot of time to rid hyrule of all the twilight, not like in the game where it sounds like one week or so xD) so the thing is, Zant sees Ganon as his god but fears him too, because he knows he might want to take over the twilight realm so he thinks he probably will be using his son to get closer to Zana and him as well as the whole twilight realm. Ganon sees the Twili as servants, so he doesn't allow his son to have a friendship with a servant. So they grow up without seeing each other again and 11 years later meet again as teenagers, and Joan mission was to kill her, but then when they realize they were friends in the past, they become friends again and decide to finish all that war between light and shadow. ^^
